SMTP and Mailbox Password Reset: Self-Service Recovery Explained

Lost your mailbox or SMTP relay password? Reset it yourself from the service page, no ticket needed.

SMTP and Mailbox Password Reset: Self-Service Recovery Explained

Mailbox and SMTP-relay passwords are set once, automatically, when the account is created โ€” and since the underlying mail platform never returns an existing password, losing it used to mean a support ticket. Now you can reset it yourself.

Where to do it

Open your mailbox or SMTP relay service from Services. Under Extension Tools, click Reset password, confirm, and your new password appears once on the page โ€” copy it before navigating away.

It changes the login everywhere

Your mailbox password is shared across every way you use that account โ€” webmail, IMAP/POP3 mail apps, and SMTP sending. After resetting, you'll need to update it in every mail client or app that had the old one saved.

Works for SMTP-relay-only accounts too

If you're on an SMTP-relay-only plan (no webmail/IMAP/POP3), the same reset option covers it โ€” you just won't see the mailbox-specific fields since they don't apply to a relay-only account.

Troubleshooting after a reset

Make sure you're using the full email address as the username, not just the part before the @ โ€” and double-check you've actually updated the password in whatever app or website config was using the old one, rather than just resetting here and expecting it to propagate automatically.
