Where Your Server's Data Actually Lives: Files, Backups and Databases

A plain explanation of how RepublicNodes stores your world files, plugin data and databases, how backups work, and what you're responsible for.

Where Your Server's Data Actually Lives: Files, Backups and Databases

It's a fair question to ask any host: where does my data actually go, and what happens if something breaks? Here's the honest, specific answer for how RepublicNodes handles it.

Files

Every game server and VPS gets its own isolated storage on NVMe SSDs on the physical node it's placed on. Your world files, plugin configs, mod jars, or (on a VPS) your entire disk, live there โ€” nowhere else, and never mixed with another customer's files. The File Manager tab gives you direct read/write/upload access to that storage from your browser, the same files the server process itself reads from.

Backups

The Backups tab lets you create a backup on demand, download it, or restore it. A backup is a point-in-time snapshot of your server's files, stored on the node separately from the live, running copy โ€” so a bad plugin update or a corrupted world doesn't take your backup down with it. Backups are customer-initiated: we don't force a schedule on you, but you can set one yourself from the Schedules tab if you want automatic daily or weekly backups instead of remembering to click the button. How many backup slots you get depends on your plan tier (Performance plans include more than Budget plans โ€” check your plan's spec list).

Databases

If your plugin, mod or app needs a MySQL database, the Databases tab creates one scoped to your server, with its own credentials. Like backups, the number of databases you can create is part of your plan's spec.

What We Store About You (Not Your Server)

Separately from server data, we keep the account information needed to run your service: your email, order and payment history, and support ticket history. Payment card details are handled by our payment providers (Razorpay, PayPal) directly โ€” we don't store your card number ourselves. Full detail on this is in our Privacy Policy.

What's on You

Backups protect you from plugin crashes, bad updates and mistakes on the server itself โ€” they don't replace keeping your own copy of anything genuinely irreplaceable off-platform. If your world or site is important to you, download a copy from the file manager or a backup export every so often. That's not a RepublicNodes-specific caution โ€” it's good practice with any host, anywhere.

Questions about a specific plan's backup or database limits? Check the plan page, or open a ticket and we'll give you a straight answer.
